Week 8: Oct 29 Midterm (open book) Setting up wireless windows server networks Our wireless method is called "PSK": pre-shared key 1. Windows Server needs to be your DNS server, so that all clients can have valid DNS names. 2. What about DHCP? Can the hub be the DHCP server? MAYBE, but one problem is that the DHCP server hands out IP addrs, and you need "dynamic DNS" to have the DNS server then able to hand out accurate name->IP translations. DHCP servers "must be authorized in Active Directory" DHCP lease times; listed time OR until network connection is unplugged 3. I couldn't get DHCP (or ICMP (ping)) to work: I had installed "ISA Server 2004"; ISA = Internet Security Architecture, a firewall. Apparently my license had expired, and my reward was that while it looked as if I could add new rules to allow DHCP,etc, in fact they would fail silently. 4. What about wireless password? I had problems using the Intel and/or Dell control utilities.(v Windows) You have to choose one, and then make it give up its authority before another utility can take over. I ended up using the Windows utility. Demo of creation of wireless policy on windows server. How does this get downloaded?
